Angel Studios is raising funds for the theatrical release of Sound of Freedom.
P&A stands for “Prints and Advertising,” and it’s an old theatrical industry term from back when movies were printed onto physical film. The term is still widely used today to describe the cost of taking a finished movie like Sound of Freedom and marketing it to moviegoers.
It’s a crucial piece of the marketing budget for a film, and in the film industry is attractive to investors. Why? Because with P&A, money is only raised after the film is already made and you know the quality of the work. Also, the P&A investors are last money in and first money out, so they are first to be paid after theaters take their cut.
The security being sold is a revenue participation agreement. If the theatrical revenues are enough to cover the cost, there will be up to 120% return of investment. If the theatrical release does not earn enough, investors would lose some or all of their investment.
No, this is not an opportunity to purchase equity in Sound of Freedom. This is an investment in the film’s P&A. P&A stands for “Prints and Advertising,” and it’s an old theatrical industry term from back when movies were printed onto physical film. The term is still widely used today to describe the cost of taking a finished movie like Sound of Freedom and marketing it to moviegoers. It’s a crucial piece of the marketing budget for a film, and in the film industry, is attractive to investors. Why? Because with P&A, money is only raised after the film is already made and you know the quality of the work. Also, the return to P&A investors is paid directly out of theatrical proceeds–meaning P&A investors get paid right after the theater gets paid. So it’s the last money in, and the first money out.
Another exciting element is that the model for P&A investment has the promise of potential returns within a 12-month period, rather than the much lengthier time when you invest in a film before filming even begins.
No return is guaranteed, so only invest what you can afford to lose. However, the maximum repayment is 120% of your principal amount invested. P&A investors also get paid back before the rest of the film’s investors and/or owners (after the theaters take their cut).
Distributions will be paid out of the movie’s revenues. P&A investors will receive funds after the theaters take their cut and before any other investors and/or owners.
The minimum investment is $1.00. The reason for this is because we want as many people to participate as possible. We hope each investor in this opportunity will bring their friends and family to the theaters opening weekend.
You may invest as many times as you would like until you reach your investment limit under Regulation CF.
The movie has bounced around a few studios since it was completed. When COVID-19 hit, a lot of projects got shelved, and Sound of Freedom needed a new distributor to get it off the shelf. That's where Angel Studios came in.

Sound of Freedom is based on the incredible true story of a US government agent who quits his job to devote his life to rescuing children from global child traffickers.
This powerful movie has already been made. The investment opportunity is to raise funds for theatrical distribution costs (P&A). The security being sold in this offering is a revenue participation right.
Angel Studios has licensed the rights to Sound of Freedom, which will be theatrically released worldwide on July 4, 2023.
Jim Caviezel (The Passion of the Christ, Count of Monte Cristo) plays the lead role of Tim Ballard.
The purpose of this film is to put a spotlight on the global movement to end the trafficking of minors by successfully distributing this film to a worldwide audience.
Sound of Freedom, based on the incredible true story, shines a light on even the darkest of places. After rescuing a young boy from ruthless child traffickers, a federal agent learns the boy’s sister is still captive and decides to embark on a dangerous mission to save her. With time running out, he quits his job and journeys deep into the Colombian jungle, putting his life on the line to free her from a fate worse than death.
Sound of Freedom is a thriller based on a pivotal extraction operation that would eventually rescue dozens of children from child traffickers in Colombia.
It has the hero energy of Hacksaw Ridge and Spotlight paired with the heart of films like Unbroken and 127 Hours.
With a star-studded cast, director, and original score, this film has gone to great lengths to bring the harrowing realities of child trafficking to life like it's never been done before. Expertly produced and acted, Sound of Freedom has a larger-than-life mission to ignite the movement to end child trafficking for good.
Spreading global awareness about the harrowing realities of child trafficking cannot happen without telling stories like this one. Storytellers are the changemakers.
Distributing a film theatrically with such a global appeal is always a significant hurdle. Angel Studios has experience with global hits like The Chosen, which had a Christmas Special and Season 3 theatrical release. Most recently, another Angel Studios project, His Only Son, successfully crowdfunded $1.235 million in just a few days for their theatrical release — which premiered in over 2,000 theaters internationally.*
Angel also has experience working outside of traditional studio paths and is hopeful audiences will be excited to have an incredible film like Sound of Freedom in their local theaters.
*Investing in companies involves a high degree of risk, including the possibility of the total loss of your investment, and there is no guarantee of any return. You should consult with your advisors prior to making an investment decision. Additionally, we have highlighted The Chosen and His Only Son here solely as a demonstration of why Angel Studios is distributing this project and not as an indication that this project will be as successful as The Chosen or His Only Son.

Sound of Freedom plans to bring this heroic movie to life in a way that traditional Hollywood has never done before, utilizing the innovative model of Angel Studios. Angel Studios is a film studio platform that helps creators come together with viewers to create high-quality TV and film without the Hollywood guesswork. How do we do that? Angel Studios’ uses a platform called the Angel Guild to pitch TV content to you, and then you --the audience-- chooses which projects qualify to be potentially distributed by Angel Studios. By partnering with its affiliated crowdfunding portal Angel Funding, Angel Studios has also innovated a way to let the audience invest in these projects to help fund their creation and for investors to share in some of the profits of films and TV series that are profitable.
Angel Studios has proven that profits are possible and several Angel Originals have already resulted in investment returns for audience members who invested in the projects. The Chosen commenced a 120% distribution of their investors’ original investment and His Only Son began paying back its P&A debt investors a 120% return.**
*Success in other projects does not guarantee success for Sound of Freedom. There can be no assurance that the projected results will be obtained, and actual results may vary significantly from the projections.
** Investing in companies involves a high degree of risk including the possibility of the total loss of your investment, and there is no guarantee of any return. You should consult with your advisors prior to making an investment decision. Additionally, we are characterizing The Chosen and His Only Son as successes because of the number of views they received and because of the revenue they generated, not based on profit. These projects are three of the 15 projects that have raised money through Angel Funding to date. The success of these projects does not guarantee the success of this project.
